As I was out riding my bike today I saw a car with a bumper sticker that said “Don’t Believe Everything You Think”. I thought it was an intriguing statement.
There are multiple ways to interpret a statement like that and I want to share my own idea.
A lot of times many of us assume that the way perceive things is the way they are regardless of what other people may beleive or say to the contrary.
For example, often we tend to think that the way we are is a result of our upbringing. “I’m just like my dad” or “My whole family is like that” tend to be a couple of the phrases that I hear the most.
Although this may give us an excuse to act the way we do or justify our circumstances, they are far from the truth.
We are responsible for the outcome of our lives. Regardless of our upbringing we control our destiny. Even though we may “Think” that we are bound to be a certain way, we are not. Don’t believe everything you think.
